The leaves are changing, the temperature is dropping - and the seasonal skincare myths are cropping up all over your social feeds once again.
To separate self-care fact from fiction, we asked Dr Alexis to debunk the four most common fall skincare myths.
Myth: You can skip SPF once summer’s over.
Fact: UV rays don’t take a break - and neither should your SPF.
“The importance of year-round sun protection cannot be overstated. UV rays continue to penetrate clouds and windows whatever the weather, causing premature aging, hyperpigmentation and even skin cancer. I recommend Mesoestetic Mesoprotech Melan 130 Pigment Control for the face and La Roche-Posay Anthelios for the body.”
Myth: Exfoliation should stop in winter.
Fact: A body scrub is for life, not just for summer.
“Our skin constantly renews itself - and gentle exfoliation once or twice weekly helps reveal the fresh, radiant cells beneath. Violet Haze Body Scrub is a niacinamide-rich, ultra-fine chia seed and sugar scrub that instantly transforms rough, dull body skin."
Myth: Retinol should be paused in colder months.
Fact: Fall and winter are the ideal seasons to introduce or increase retinol usage.
“Just remember colder weather can dry the skin, so layer a hydrating moisturizer on top and make changes gradually. And of course, SPF remains non-negotiable.”
Myth: Only my face needs seasonal skincare.
Fact: Looking after the skin on your body isn’t a summer special.
“Cooler weather, indoor heating and hot showers can compromise your skin barrier. Supporting it year-round helps protect against dryness and damage while keeping skin supple and smooth. Try our Moon Swim Body Wash and Sunday Sofa Body Butter - the ideal combination for deep dermal hydration."
