A chemical exfoliant is a friction-free formula that removes dead skin cells from the upper surface of the skin, allowing new skin cells to generate and resulting in more radiant skin.
Chemical exfoliants work by dissolving the bonds that hold dead skin cells together (as opposed to a physical exfoliant, which manually buffs off dead cells from the skin's surface). There are three key families of chemical exfoliants: AHAs (potent acids that reduce fine lines and pigmentation whilst restoring radiance), PHAs (a gentler version that doesn't penetrate so deeply, and also works to attract moisture to the skin) and BHAs (a powerful oil-soluble exfoliant, able to travel slightly deeper into the pores to clear skin cells).
