Marshmallow root, or Althaea officinalis, is a natural plant extract from the marshmallow plant. Within skincare, it is primarily used as an emollient (skin-softener) thanks to its polysaccharide content, and helps to protect the skin's natural supply of intensely hydrating hyaluronic acid.
