DR ALEXIS GRANITE

"As a dermatologist, developing products that deliver results should be a given. But I want to build a brand that stands for so much more than that. There is magic in moments. Artistry blended with science, storytelling, a hint of nostalgia, the feeling you belong. And always JOY."

Affective Wellness™ is a state of holistic, emotional well-being.

JOY, fulfillment and resilience are all central to Affective Wellness™. Our mission is to inspire JOY by building skin confidence, by fostering community and by designing products people love to use.

Science with soul means that when you look good, you feel good too.

There is direct scientific evidence that self-care benefits Affective Wellness™.

The reduction of stress through body care can be achieved with a daily, mindful self-care regimen. A number of clinical studies demonstrate that committing to a regular daily schedule decreases anxiety and depression, and improves well-being. When specifically applied to body care, there is also evidence that a skincare regimen can decrease cortisol levels, enhancing mood and emotional health.

When your skin feels it, your mind does too.

When your skin senses stress, it sends signals to your brain, affecting your mood and your behavior. One study found 98% of people with skin problems believe their condition negatively impacts their psychological well-being, including feelings of loneliness, depression and anxiety.

The relationship between skin and stress works both ways. Cortisol (the stress hormone) can also affect skin barrier function. A study investigating the relationship between psychological stress and skin barrier function found that in periods of high stress, skin took longer to recover .

When body care becomes emotional care.

Ever spritzed your favorite scent, and immediately been transported to another time, evoked a memory or changed your mood? You are not alone: research demonstrates that a hugely significant 70% of our emotions are prompted by scent.

Our sense of smell is directly linked to the limbic system in our brain, the area that processes our emotions (the amygdala) and memories (the hippocampus).

There are many scientific correlations between scent, memory and emotion. One study found that individuals with major depressive disorder were more able to recall happy memories when exposed to familiar scents, demonstrating that scent has the ability to disrupt negative thought patterns.
